Zara Asker, born Jacqueline Oxford, is the current chairwoman of CHERUB. Her parents, documentary makers, died in a plane crash in the Amazon when she was two. Zara was looked after by her grandfather until he died in 1977. She joined CHERUB the following year.
In 1984, Zara became a black-shirt, one of the youngest ever to do so. In 1988, she retired after 14 missions and attended Yale from 1989 to 1991, obtaining a degree in international politics at Yale. In 1991, she began work at the United Nations at an administrative post before working on peacekeeping missions. In 1996, she rejoined CHERUB as an assistant mission controller. In 2000, she was promoted to mission controller. In 2006, she was promoted to chairwoman.
Zara lives in a cottage not far from campus with her husband Ewart Asker, a CHERUB mission controller, her children, Joshua and Tiffany, and her dog, Meatball.
