Chiki:Speaki

From Chiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Speaki is a project aimed at getting spoken versions of as many Chiki articles as possible. Hopefully all the good articles at least. And then, we can improve the bad articles and speak them too. And then we can all listen to each other. Wont that be lovely?

All the articles that have been done so far can be seen at Category:Spoken Chiki Articles.

How to...

Interested? Good. Before you begin, you'll need to have installed Audacity (the software that will record your voice), and the LAME MP3 encoder (to create an MP3 file from your recording). To find out how to install these, see the link.

Once you have installed the software, and it is working properly, you can begin. Follow the steps below to create your spoken version of an article.

  1. Choose and Record an article
  2. Upload the recording to Chiki
  3. Insert the sound file into the article

Why?

You're probably wondering why we're doing this. Well...

  • Reading an article helps to catch any spelling, grammar, or other mistakes in the article, helping in turn to improve Chiki's content.
  • It helps bring the community together - we've all met each other on CHERUB Forums, we've probably chatted to each other on MSN, now we can hear each other!!
  • It gives people something to listen to - sometimes it can be nice to have somebody reading something to you while you read the article in your head, especially if you're in noisy surroundings.
  • It gives people who are not too keen on writing an article something else to do, while still contributing to Chiki.

Current Contributors

Are you recording articles right now? Would you like to join in the project some time soon? Leave your name here along with all the articles you've spoken (or will speak soon) - hopefully we can build a list of everybody who's taking part.
